What it is
Crocheting makes fabric from one hook and a continuous strand of yarn — hats, bags, toys, garments. It is not knitting. Knitting uses two needles and live stitches; crochet finishes each stitch as you go, so ripping back is simpler and you can work from a single loop.
Why people stay
A project fits in a bag. You can stop mid-row without the work sliding off the needles. The same three stitches cover most beginner patterns, so the jump from dishcloth to hat is a real next step, not a new sport.
