Embroidery

A 4-inch hoop: running, backstitch, satin.

Editorial still life of a small embroidery hoop, floss, and needles. Generated graphic, no people.

What it is

Embroidery is stitching a design onto fabric with cotton floss. A hoop holds the cloth tight. Three beginner stitches — running, backstitch, satin — cover most samplers and a lot of simple pictures.

Why people stay

A 4-inch hoop is a finished object in an evening. You can watch something and still stitch. People stay because the next motif is a transfer they already like, not because they need a new craft identity.
